Mid-June Updates

Hello Punch Passer’s,

I know I told you I would only bother about once per month, but I do not want you to miss out on these studio updates!

QiGong is now being offered in person at our Portland location! Join Jade Practitioner James Constantine, LAC every Friday at 8am for this ancient, gentle, strength and coordination building practice that is the epitome of meditation in motion. This class is limited to 3 participants and vaccinated students are welcome to remove masks.

Our Summer Pop-Up series is debuting with a Men’s Stretch Intensive! Held live in Payson Park, here in Portland ME, this 75 minute offering is for all the guys out there who can’t touch their toes, who’s hip flexors or IT bands are so tight leg crossing is difficult (or impossible), or those of you who wake up each morning with lots of stiff, crunchy, aches and pains. Hosted by yours truly and Chris Byrne, owner of Metta Movement, this intensive combines a blend of disciplines to help open and introduce mobility to those places most affected by the natural structure of the male anatomy. Share with someone you love today!

Also, just a heads up to all you mid-day heroes out there, Tuesday and Thursday Barre/Yoga Blend classes are now at 10:30, as is the Wednesday Barre class.

And finally, There is a new video in the Punch Pass content library Gentle Yoga: The Transverse Abdominis one. June Studio Updates - Happy June!

Greetings!

Hello to all current and new Jade Punch Pass members! The weather is getting warmer, the flowers are blooming, and the birds are singing...this is my favorite time of year, and by far the busiest! If you feel like summer is already getting away from you, don't worry, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the sun, and nourish yourself inside and out :)

I am pleased to announce the return of In-Person studio class offerings at our Brunswick location! Starting June 15th, we will be launching an All Levels Yoga class on Tuesday evenings at 5:30pm, and Chair Yoga on Wednesday morning at 11am. It’s a small start, but it’s a start! Be on the look out for more classes being added to the schedule in the upcoming weeks!

This June we are celebrating Men’s Health Month! Check out this great “How To Yoga” installment featuring Jade Staff member James Constantine demoing Cobra Pose. In addition, some of the month’s class themes and practices will be addressing the specific mobility and alignment of the male body.

As the summer progresses, you may hear from me more than once per month as I don’t want any of you to miss out on any of the fun offerings that we have in the works here at Jade Studios. Hint, we will be playing outside!

And, as always, I love hearing from you and welcome your feedback and suggestions. You are the heart of the studio culture here at Jade, and as we rebuild our class schedules, we want to make sure you find your space here. Without you there is no community, so thank you for being a part of, not apart.

Your’s in Peace, Love, and Gratitude,

Namaste,

Sarra

April 2021 Workshop for Runners

Spring 2021 Running WS.png

Whether you are picking up running for the first time, getting back into it or are an avid marathoner this workshop is designed to balance the demands of running and improve your overall functionality while hitting your optimal stride and pace.

Although running is a great form of exercise, it doesn’t work the body evenly. Many painful running injuries can be linked to muscle imbalances in strength and or flexibility. Furthermore, these asymmetries can contribute to poor running form, compounding the deleterious effects. This workshop is designed to teach you techniques to minimize injury risk and incorporate yoga for a well balanced routine.

This two hour workshop co-taught by physical therapist Melissa Belcher and certified yoga instructor Lauren Keizer will cover common running hotspots, such as tightness in the hips and hamstrings. Melissa will be conducting a functional strength & flexibility screen, leading a brief discussion on running mechanics and guiding us in a dynamic warm up prior to a timed group 10 minute run. This is not intended to be a race but rather a chance to practice some of what you learn on a brief run so don't worry about your pace! Lauren will conclude the workshop with a yoga class designed for runners and a deep relaxation, this session will leave you feeling enthusiastic to lace up your sneakers!

Instructor Changes at Jade - March 2021

2.png

Join Liz Korsen, CYT on Mondays at 4:30pm for Restorative Yoga.

Restorative Yoga gives yogis the opportunity to completely relax and rest. Postures are fully supported with props and held for up to 10 minutes in order to focus on the body and mind’s ability to soften and release. In a busy world where the emphasis is on doing, come practice simply being in this Restorative Yoga class. The practice of restorative yoga is beneficial for people who have difficulty slowing down, who have overactive minds or people who simply want to take time to nurture themselves.

1.png

Join Karie Wik, DPT, LMY, CYT on Wednesdays at 7:00am for Gentle Yoga.

Our Gentle Yoga Class is a place for you to arrive on your mat and slow down. We invite you to step away from your busy day and bring the attention inward. You may be led through a gentle-slow flow or find yourself holding gentle poses for a longer duration. Awareness of the mind-body connection as well as attention to your breath work will be emphasized in this class and your instructor will encourage you to listen to your body’s needs and respect its limitations. Recommended for all levels looking for a soothing, relaxing, and restorative experience, especially those newer to yoga or working with special concerns or injuries.

New Barre & Yoga Fusion Class

Upcoming Workshops (2).png

We are excited to help you achieve your fitness goals by introducing a new class that begins tomorrow! A fusion of Barre & Yoga.

This 45 minute long eclectic mix of Barre and Yoga brings you the best of both worlds in one manageable class, no experience necessary!

Sam will start each class with a barre routine focussing on low-impact, high intensity movements that target your major muscle groups; arms, thighs, glutes, and core lending you total body strength and tone. You’lll want a chair or countertop available as well as light weights, 1-3lbs max (we recommend water bottles or canned goods) and a yoga mat.

Sarra will then shift gears leading you through an approachable yoga sequence designed as a direct complement to the barre component. The musculature you just incited will be stretched and lengthened leading to an overall feeling of stability and openness for your whole body.

Barre/Yoga Blend will foster endurance, increase range of motion, improve posture, and help you find balance at any age, any stage.

At Jade, we offer Qigong basics so that you can learn the fundamental movements and help develop your own Qigong flow.

Some of the benefits of regular practice of Qigong are improved balance, greater emotional stability, increased flexibility, enhanced cognition, and a stronger immune system.

Our New Qigong Class

New Qi Gong Class (1).png

From the Chinese words for "Intentional Energy" and "Work," Qigong is a codified system of movements that aim to improve physical and mental health. In some ways Qigong is similar to practices like Yoga and TaiChiChuan; mindful, full-body movements are coordinated with deep abdominal breathing.

One of the beautiful things about Qigong is that it is instantly scalable; this means that exercises or forms can be easily adapted to anyone's current level of fitness. You can even practice while seated if you're not comfortable standing for periods of time. This means that people of all ages can practice together regardless of experience, which also makes it a beautiful way to connect with your wider community.

Qigong forms don't require any equipment; just comfortable clothing and only an arm-span of unobstructed space. These exercises can be used as a stand alone program for people who have been sedentary for a while, or as low impact "active recovery" for seasoned athletes. Qigong is also a great mental exercise for people who find meditation "too passive." It's gentle enough to repeat daily, but can have a profound impact on respiratory function, joint mobility, mental clarity, balance, energy levels; just to name a few.

Starting on Friday, October 16th, Jade Integrated Health will be offering a NEW class. Join us for a live-streaming Qigong class on Friday mornings at 7am.

Qigong (pronounced che-gong) is a form of gentle exercise that is a fundamental component of self-care in traditional Chinese medicine. Less rigorous than many yoga or fitness classes, and more active than most meditation practices, this movement therapy gently strengthens, calms, and supports both body and mind. It involves meditation and repeated movements that improve circulation and increase qi (energy), encouraging an overall sense of well-being.
