Yoga Class vs. a Yoga 1-on-1

At Jade Integrated Health, we talk a lot about the effectiveness of yoga 1-on1s. You might be wondering ….What is the difference between a yoga class and a yoga 1-on-1 at Jade Integrated Health?

As part of physical therapy, Jade Integrated Health offers yoga sessions where patients are 1-on-1 with a yoga certified practitioner for a physical therapy session.

In a yoga class, the student selects the type of yoga practiced. However, they do not select the sequence. The movement offered in a group yoga class may not be safe to practice with the student’s specific injury and is unlikely to be targeted to be beneficial to that individual student. In a yoga 1-on-1 session, the yoga student is given a yoga sequence designed for them and their specific movement needs identified by the physical therapist. The style of yoga is decided by the yoga practitioner to match these movement needs.

If the student is new to yoga, they will be given a foundation of knowledge about yoga participation. If they have an established yoga practice, they may be introduced to a new style of yoga that will help allow yoga to match their physical needs more effectively. They also have the opportunity to workshop postures that are challenging for them and refine their practice for improved benefits.

Both the new and established yoga student will be empowered with knowledge about their long term body needs. This will allow them to safely transition to better self regulating in a group class and independent self-care. This is the magic of including yoga in your rehabilitation. If you leave physical therapy with the ability to safely select and participate in a yoga class, then you are on your way to preventing future injury and establishing better movement habits for the rest of your life. Let the option of a yoga 1-on-1 allow us to meet your movement needs and provide a skill for a more balanced body.
