Cardiovascular conditioning and aerobic exercise are important to heart health. Regular aerobic exercise can help regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, and mood, improve sleep, strengthen the immune system and lungs, and help manage chronic pain. As your heart gets stronger, it gets more efficient at pumping oxygenated blood, nutrients, and immune and anti-inflammatory response cells. This improved circulation helps muscles, the lungs and other tissues to be stronger and healthier. Starting an aerobic routine can be overwhelming but there are so many benefits. Putting a little stress on the heart muscle is training for it to strengthen, grow and adapt.
For physical therapy patients who are seasoned athletes and can handle more strenuous cardio work, we have a well equipped gym to accommodate their needs and more rigorous classes to get the heart pumping. For patients who need to start slow and gradually increase cardio work, we offer low impact cardiovascular training, such as modified exercises, use of an arm bike, qigong and gentle yoga.
The Jade Integrated Health physical therapy team can help you identify what types of exercise would be appropriate for you and give guidance on a variety of enjoyable in-house exercise classes. Class exercises can be modified to your needs or medical conditions, including modifying poses with props, sitting in a chair or holding onto something for balance. Our fitness studio class sizes are limited to ensure that you get individual attention and to allow for distancing, and many of our instructors are health care providers.
