Cupping
The basics
Cupping is a technique that can be performed during an acupuncture or PT appointment. The cups stay on the skin for 5 to 20 minutes and are adhered by a suction pump. They may stay stationary or your practitioner may recommend "sliding cup", which involves moving the cup along the skin to create a stronger release. Cupping improves circulation, relaxes muscles, and can provide pain-relieving effects. Some patients experience temporary skin discoloration following a cupping treatment, but that typically resolves within a week.
